FEDERAL FACILITIES

Naval Base Kitsap Electrical Infrastructure Upgrades, U.S. Department of the Navy, Bangor, Keyport, and Indian Island, Washington

Project Consultant for geotechnical investigation and civil design of various base improvement projects, including expansion of existing substations and installation of new generator pads and switch gear.  Geotechnical scope of services included subsurface exploration, laboratory testing, and developing foundation design parameters and earthwork construction criteria.  Civil design included geometric design, grading and drainage, hydrology and design of storm water systems and detention basins, design of yard areas, access roadways, and fences. Deliverables included construction drawings, Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans, calculations and specifications.

 

Geotechnical Investigation for LBNE Project, Fermi National Laboratory/Groff Testing, Batavia, Illinois

Project Manager and Senior Geotechnical Consultant for deep core drilling (250 to 650 feet) and field exploration services for tunnel design. Project also included seismic refraction studies and extensive geotechnical laboratory testing program.

 

Bicycle Path and Campground Improvements, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers/Cherokee General Corporation/, Rend Lake, Benton, Illinois

Project Manager and Principal Consultant for design of approximately 14 miles of concrete bicycle trail and various campground improvements. Bicycle path design included: existing conditions survey; geotechnical Investigation; civil design, grading and drainage; development of plans and specifications; and structural design of four pedestrian/bicycle bridges. Campground improvements included: field reconnaissance and mapping of existing pavements; design of pavement repairs (3-inch asphalt overlay for 6.1 miles of roadways, parking lots, and 144 campsites); expansion of 34 existing campsites; addition of parking spaces to 27 existing campsites; addition of seven new gate attendant/host campsites; development of plans and specifications; and environmental permitting (Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans).

 

Lake Carlyle Pedestrian Bridge, US Army Corps of Engineers/Cherokee General Corporation, Carlyle, Illinois

Project Consultant and Engineer of Record for 180 foot-long pedestrian bridge. Services included: design of site grading and bike trail at the bridge approaches, and design of deep foundation system and bridge abutments.

 

Flood Retarding Structure, US Soil Conservation Service, Artesia, New Mexico

Project Manager for geotechnical investigation and design of a 60-foot-high, two-mile-long floodwater retarding structure (earth dam). Designed earth embankment and appurtenant structures, including primary and secondary spillway systems.

 

RCRA Facilities Investigation, Naval Air Station Cecil Field, Jacksonville, Florida

Project Manager and Principal Consultant for RCRA Facilities Investigation at active naval air station. Investigated 14 potentially contaminated sites, including abandoned landfill/waste disposal areas, firefighting training areas, oil disposal areas, pesticide disposal areas, and hazardous material storage areas. Work performed included site reconnaissance, geophysical surveys, soil borings, groundwater monitoring well installations, and soil, sediment, surface water and groundwater sampling and analyses to characterize nature of hazardous constituents released from various Solid Waste Management Units (SWMUs) at facility.

 

Comprehensive Environmental Assessment, Naval Construction Battalion Center, Gulfport, Mississippi

Project Manager and Principal Consultant for comprehensive environmental assessment program conducted under the Department of Defense Installation Restoration Program. Investigated nine potentially contaminated sites, including abandoned landfill/waste disposal areas, firefighting training area, former herbicide orange storage site, and PCB transformer spill area. Work performed included site reconnaissance, geophysical surveys, soil borings, groundwater monitoring well installations, and soil, sediment, surface water and groundwater sampling and analyses to characterize nature of hazardous constituents released at facility.

Intenational Projcts

300-Acre Mixed Use Commercial/Residential Development, Burt Hill, Dubai (United Arab Emirates)

Project Manager and Geotechnical Engineer conducting third party review of geotechnical investigation for 300-acre mixed use commercial/residential development in Jebel Ali Village. Development included 9,000 to 12,000 residential units in buildings ranging from 5 to 10 stories, four hotels (4 stories), park and club house, 2,000-student school/mosque (2 stories), mixed use residential/commercial building(s) ranging up to 19 stories, and a 50-story iconic tower.

 

Environmental Assessment [2003-2004], Diageo Canada, Amherstberg, Ontario, Canada

Project Manager for environmental assessment to evaluate impact of adjacent industrial manufacturing activities (to produce deicing salt) on approximately 40 acres of client’s property leased to local farmer.

 

Phase I Environmental Site Assessments [1998], Binks Sames Corporation, Industrial Manufacturing Facilities in England and Scotland

Project Manager for multi-national environmental due diligence assessment (including Europe and Australia). Performed confidential Phase I Environmental Site Assessments at industrial manufacturing facilities near Birmingham, England and Edinburgh, Scotland.

Mixed Use High Rise Building, CRS Sirrine, Inc., Shenzhen, China

Geotechnical Consultant for foundation design of mixed use high rise building. Field exploration and geotechnical laboratory testing conducted by others. Developed deep foundation design criteria and recommendations for large-diameter, high-capacity caissons in deep alluvium.

Grass Roots Refinery, Mobil Oil, Yanbu, Saudi Arabia

Project Manager and Principal Consultant for geotechnical investigation for $1 Billion US grass roots refinery site. Conducted field investigation and geotechnical testing program to evaluate subsurface soil and groundwater conditions. Developed geotechnical design criteria for shallow foundation system supported on dense alluvial deposits and earthwork construction criteria for Site development.

 

Gas Treatment Plant, Fluor Great Britain Limited, Habshan, Abu Dhabi

Project Manager and Principal Consultant for geotechnical investigation of grass roots gas treatment plant site. Conducted field investigation and geotechnical testing program to evaluate subsurface soil conditions. Developed geotechnical design criteria for shallow foundation system supported on dense natural sands and earthwork construction criteria for Site development.

 

Saudi Pecten Petrochemical Plant, Fluor Arabia, Jubail, Saudi Arabia

Project Manager and Principal Consultant for geotechnical investigation for $4 Billion US grass roots petrochemical plant. Conducted field investigation and geotechnical testing program to evaluate subsurface soil and groundwater conditions. Developed geotechnical design criteria for shallow foundation system supported on engineered fill, temporary and permanent road construction, and earthwork construction criteria for Site development. Performed borrow material studies for Site fill and roadbase materials. Designed, constructed and load-tested pavement test section. Consultant on geotechnical aspects of construction. 

 

600 MW Coal-Fired Power Plant, Jordan Electric Authority, Aqaba, Jordan

Project Manager and Principal Consultant for geotechnical investigation of new coal-fired power plant site in southern Jordan. Conducted field investigation and laboratory testing program to evaluate subsurface soil and groundwater conditions. Developed geotechnical design criteria for shallow foundation system supported on dense native soils and earthwork construction criteria for Site development.
